The group chat is noisy, but the date/location is not decided until the end. The rule is not ‘who procrastinates’ but ‘why the structure can’t make a decision’.
Everyone says what days they can, but no one ‘picks one’.
The possibilities are endless when you mix opinion gathering (exploration) and selection (convergence) in the same chat.
**Separated into 24 hours of exploration → 2 hours of convergence**: “It is possible until 9 o’clock tomorrow, and then I will narrow it down to 2 and vote.”
They say ‘anywhere’ and when a candidate comes up, they say they don’t like it.
If the criteria are hidden, candidates will continue to be eliminated (price/distance/atmosphere).
Only 3 criteria revealed: **Distance/Budget/Atmosphere (Quiet/Activity)**
Everyone sneaks out for fear that there will be dissatisfaction if someone decides.
If a decision is perceived as a responsibility, no one will take charge of the process.
Reduce the burden of progress to ‘experimentation’: **“Let’s go for a test this time and if it’s not good, let’s change it next time.”**
Anywhere = This is a sign that the standards have not been made public yet.
Opposition is easy, but if there is no alternative, fatigue only builds up.
People who feel that confirmation is ‘constraint’ fall into that timing.
Reducing choices reduces conflict.
Example: “Let’s choose only two: A (quiet) and B (active).”
If you just take charge of organizing, the burden is greatly reduced.
Example: “I’ll just organize it. The choice is made by voting.”
Without a deadline, voting turns into a conversation.
Example: “Closes at 10 o’clock today. Non-response will be counted as a majority!”
Don't wake up today with today's dissatisfaction.
Example: “Let’s go like this this time, and next time, let’s reflect your taste.”
Try saying: “Only until 9 o’clock tomorrow! After that, I will reduce the number to two and raise the vote.”
Try saying: “Only two candidates, A/B. One vote each! One line of reason.”
Try saying: “Okay, let’s reflect that in the next episode. It’s confirmed for today!”
A. So, the key is to separate the process manager into ‘organizing’ and the selection into ‘voting’.
A. If you add a majority rule for deadline + non-response, diving becomes ‘delegation’ rather than ‘interference’.
The conversation continues, but when you get home, you feel strangely tired. We've outlined what misunderstandings arise from which combinations and even the solution routines that can be used right away.
Settlement, Dutch, prepayment, membership fee… Minor money issues can drastically change the temperature of a relationship. Rather than ‘who paid more,’ we sorted out the problems that arise because ‘there are no rules.’
At first it was a light chat, but later there were moments when it took a turn towards someone getting hurt. We have defined the boundary between ‘fun chat’ and ‘landmines.’
There are moments when the existing members are comfortable, but it is difficult for new people to join. If you are too considerate, it becomes awkward again. We have organized operating rules that blend in naturally.
